Ebor Gardens Community Centre IT Suite funded by GMB Community Organising Project, GMB Leeds Branches and Leeds Labour Councillors
GMB Leeds Branches teamed up with the GMB Community Organising Project to jointly contribute to an IT Suite in Ebor Gardens Community Centre. This joint effort demonstrates an important step in progressing the learning agenda, with GMB Branches not only supporting learning by mouth but by means too. The collaboration was brought together through the teamwork of Stacey Booth, GMB Leeds Convenor and Adam Smith, GMB Community Organising Project.
The GMBs investment was matched by the Council’s Inner East Area Committee, which Councillor Khan chairs and Councillor Grahame is a member of, to reach the funds needed to install the new IT Suite. The great relationship between GMB and Leeds Councillors, Ron Grahame and Asghar Khan, has ensured a deprived area of the City has the same opportunities as the rest of Leeds. With the support of Tim Roache, GMB Regional Secretary and the continued partnership with Leeds Labour Councillors we will aid in organising learning in the community and improve the lives of members and local people.
Ebor Gardens Community Centre had not previously received investment for IT facilities and needed a helping hand to meet the growing needs of the surrounding community. Under the supervision of Sarah May, LCC Neighbourhood Manager community workers and learning providers already run an active centre running varied courses such as Zumba, ESOL, Youth Services, Two Way Street (Learning Partnerships NEET project), Coffee Mornings, Church Groups to community meetings. The IT investment will broaden it’s offers by enabling the centre to successfully run Job Clubs, IT help, online courses and add additional benefits to all its current activities. Together all can achieve!
