Angered Southern Cross Members Say ‘No’ to management in pay freeze ballot

17 Nov 2010

GMB members working in the Southern Cross care homes all over the region have voted overwhelmingly to say ‘no’ to the offer of a pay freeze this year, which would mean many of our members being condemned to the minimum wage.

The results, which returned a 486 non-acceptance of a pay freeze and 3 in acceptance, clearly demonstrates the anger of this passionate and dedicated group of workers.

Commenting, Jon Smith, organiser for Southern Cross, said:
“At a time when the Chief Executive is paying himself an astronomical salary our members’ ability to earn a decent living wage is being denied.  We await the overall national results and the response from the company before proceeding to the next stage.”
