Can we kick it? - yes we can!

For the second year in a row GMB were victorious over Unison in the Inter-Union 5 aside football competition, finishing in third place.

There were many claims that the winners ASLEF were guilty of unfair playing practices and a lack of demarcation as they entered two teams who seemed to have a loose interpretation of which one of the teams their 20 players were playing for!

Consequently, the moral victory on the day was ours.  Team Captain Steve Morris stated: “Given the average age of our team this was not only a marvelous result but also a tribute to medical science and the National Health Service.  He also gave special praise to the ringers who on the day gave the bona-fide players a ‘slight’ indication on how to play the beautiful game.”

For the first time ever, the GMB also fielded a women’s team.  Following a strict training regime imposed by Captain Caroline Jones (alcohol, junk food and late nights) they gave a very commendable performance netting 16 goals (in the opposition’s net!) and finished joint third.  Once again special thanks were given to the ringers.

Both teams are relishing the prospect of further sporting endeavours.  By then they hope to have secured some sponsorship; with manufacturers of replacement hips and knees being approached as we go to press.
