GMB’s Clive Warley Announced as Olympic Torchbearer

Clive Warley, president and GMB activist from York General Branch, is set to light up the sky in York when he takes part in the official Olympic Torch-bearing ceremony in York over the course of two days in June.
Clive is one of the City of York Council’s two nominated Torchbearers.

Tadcaster Road, The Shambles, Bishopthorpe Road and a section of the Bar Walls are among the spectacular York routes that the Olympic Torch will travel on 19th/20th June. Street by street details and proposed start times are at http://www.london2012.com/olympictorchrelay.

The Torch will arrive at York Racecourse’s main stage on the 19th June on a thoroughbred horse and on the 20th it will steam out of the City from the National Railway Museum aboard the impressive Scots Guardsman locomotive.

Commenting Clive said: “I feel honored to have been chosen to carry the Torch and am really humbled that GMB would nominate me for such a prestigious event.  It’s a great opportunity and I hope everyone gets behind the games.”

Speaking at the media launch today, City of York Council’s chief executive, Kersten England, referred to Clive as a ‘stalwart of the City’.
