Save Highfield Grange Campaign

23 Sep 2011

On Saturday 24th September 2011, a petitioning session is taking place in Barnsley Pedestrian Precinct as part of the Save Highfield Grange Campaign from 11.00am.

Staff members and Trade Union Reps from GMB and Unison will be near the Alhambra Centre front to ask shoppers to sign a petition opposing the closure of Highfield Grange Residential Care Home at Wombwell but used by people from across the Borough.

Said GMB Branch Secretary Henry Rajch “The unions are asking the NHS and Council Bosses to Keep Highfield Grange open.  Anybody who’s been there knows what an important role it plays in helping people on their road to recovery after having suffered injury or illness. There is no private sector equivalent and by gaining hundreds of signatures we’re hoping to show the Managers that the public are fully behind us.
Some of the staff at Highfield were moved there when Greenside House closed and now find themselves once again facing the sack as there is now nowhere else to go as Highfield is the last Council Care “Home”.
