Local Government Pay

3 Jun 2009

Over the past few weeks there has been some constructive dialogue between union and employer representatives to try to break the deadlock over pay for 2009.  Although some progress has been made the employers, through the Local Government Association, have not yet agreed among themselves what to do next.  Are they going to respond positively or are they going to provoke confrontation?

Clearly the employers’ prevarication makes a mockery of their own deadline of 31 May to conclude a deal.

In the meantime GMB and the other TUs remain willing to talk and are committed to achieving a negotiated settlement for 2009 pay.
