Strike Ballot of Sheffcare Staff

25 Sep 2009

The dispute centres on changes to staff contracts being introduced to help SheffCare save £400,000. The company needs to make the savings because council grants are drying up and public spending cuts are expected next year.

Savings outlined include £61,000 in holiday entitlement, £60,000 in sick pay, £114,000 by changing care grades, £28,000 by reducing cooks’ hours, £12,000 on a senior clerk, £30,000 on removal of a cleaning team and £81,000 in redundancies.

Talks have so far negotiated a delay until next year in the reduction of holiday entitlement and Christmas working benefits will also remain this year.
