Young GMB rep is leading union negotiations at Amey in Sheffield

GMB member Jake O’Malley has been awarded the 2016 TUC Congress award for youth for his work as a GMB rep at Amey plc in Sheffield.

After completing his GMB rep training last year, Jake has already taken up the role of lead rep at the site where he has recruited over 100 new members making GMB the largest trade union at the site. He is currently leading negotiations to begin talks between GMB and Amey through a joint recognition agreement.

Jake O’Malley said "I’m proud to have won this award as a GMB member and workplace rep.

Being part of a strong union, with strong union values has been great and has allowed me to help ensure that my colleagues are getting what’s best for them at work.

I hope that this award can be an inspiration to other young people to become active in their union and the movement as a whole."
