GMB Support National Union Of Teachers Strike Over Education Cuts

Every penny saved in education must be put back into rebuilding our underfunded education system, not lining the pockets of Chief Execs says GMB.

GMB, the union for school support staff, commented in support of National Union of Teachers who are striking today (Tuesday, 05 July 2016) over cuts to education.

GMB called on the Secretary of State for Education to meet with Education Unions to agree a fair funding formula and settlement for Education.

Barbara Plant, Chair of the GMB Schools Committee, said "GMB sends a message of solidarity to all NUT Staff taking part in industrial action across the country today.

No teacher will want to take strike action today but they have been left with no alternative but to stand up for education and our children. The government is apparently unable to do themselves despite it being their duty and responsibility.

Our teachers and support staff are the backbone of our education system, yet we have a government hell bent on destroying equality of opportunity for our children.

GMB stands united with the NUT against the attacks on our schools and the academisation programme that this government has unleashed across England. A programme that is dangerously cutting our members’ terms and conditions while removing subjects and increasing class sizes, all the while snatching choice away from our children.

Every penny saved in education must be put back into rebuilding our underfunded education system, not lining the pockets of Chief Execs and board members whose numbers are growing exponentially across our schools."
