Doncaster Sheffield airport will bring a welcome boost to the local economy and create much-needed employment opportunities in Doncaster, says GMB Unio

GMB, the union for aviation workers, has welcomed the news that a new 125-year lease has been agreed between Peel Group and Doncaster City Council which will see the reopening of Doncaster Sheffield Airport.

Sarah Barnes, GMB Organiser, said:

“The closure of the airport in 2022 was a big blow to the local people and the economy in Doncaster.

“This new lease brings fresh hope, especially to the hundreds of GMB members who lost their jobs.

“We look forward to working closely with investors and the new operator - and to the day when we see workers returning to the airport for their first shift.”
